The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, deals with facial, skeletal and dental deformities and aims to correct these. A spacious department which comprises of separate clinical units for Graduate and Post Graduate training remain united in training young minds in the subject of orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics .The postgraduate clinic is well equipped with a workstation for each student. Patient records are being maintained in a state of the art record room. A department library is maintained for in-department reference. A departmental museum has been created for illustration of appliance and techniques.
Teaching of the subject is carried out both at the graduate and post graduate levels. The under graduate teaching program trains undergraduates as per the syllabus lay down by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and thereby equips the students in diagnosis, case selection, removable appliance fabrication and management of simple malocclusion with removable appliances. Our Postgraduate are trained to impart comprehensive orthodontic treatment care to patients which includes – Management of dental problems with removable or fixed multi-bonded appliances, skeletal problems through growth modulation or surgical intervention in collaboration and coordination with the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, TMJ disorder, cleft lip and palate and other facial deformities in collaboration and co ordination with other department. They are exposed to clinical as well as field research work in dental camps, trained and encouraged for public speaking by the way of seminar presentation in the state of the art seminar room of the department, paper , table presentations at the National Students Conventions, Specialty conventions.
